How it all Started.
High school best friends who grew up in neighborhoods just 10 minutes away from each other turned co-founders of YES Foundation Dc. These brothers would make it their mission to create new opportunities for youth and families within the most troubled Wards in Washington, DC.
Founded in 2020, YES started with online tutoring, reaching elementary and middle school students living in Ward 7 of Washington, DC. With just three tutors, YES was able to successfully tutor over 25 students who were faced with academic challenges throughout the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic. As YES was able to continue working in the community, the founders realized more struggles that youth and families could face while living in underprivileged communities.
Where YES is going.
Today, YES Foundation DC, led by Dominique Scruggs and Gary Hill, is empowering youth, families, and communities to strive through obstacles they may face on a day to day occasion. Our mission is to use the activities as tools to foster positive character development, social and emotional learning skills, academic achievement, and improved health among youth living and families in communities in the Washington DC Area.
Over the years, YES has made it a focal point to provide for youth who are growing up in underserved neighborhoods in Washington DC. We are able to provide our youth from ages 7 - 16 with academic support, social emotional learning, and sporting activities each weekend.
